Not always—but it depends on your current modem/router’s capabilities.
If you’re upgrading to a higher-speed plan (like 100Mbps or 1000Mbps), your existing modem/router must support those speeds, especially on the WAN (Internet) port. Some older devices may bottleneck your speed, even if your plan allows for higher performance.
To check if your router is compatible:
Visit the official website of your router’s brand (e.g., TP-Link, Netgear, Asus).
Look up your router model and check the WAN port speed—it should be at least 1 Gbps for high-speed plans.
Ensure the device supports AC (Wi-Fi 5) or AX (Wi-Fi 6) standards for better wireless performance.
If your router doesn’t meet these specs, we recommend upgrading to ensure you get the full benefit of your new plan.
