Single-band VS dual-band router

For optimal WiFi performance, Occom recommends using a dual-band router — now the standard in most modern homes.

Why dual-band?

Single-band routers (2.4GHz only) offer wide coverage but are more prone to interference and slower speeds, especially in crowded areas.

Dual-band routers support both:

2.4GHz: Longer range, better wall penetration, but slower and more interference

5GHz: Faster speeds, less interference, ideal for streaming and gaming at shorter distances

Current trend

Most new routers are dual-band or even tri-band, designed for today’s device-heavy households

5GHz has become the preferred choice for high-speed tasks

Mesh systems and WiFi 6 routers are also becoming more popular, offering better performance across large or multi-room homes

Occom’s tip

For the best experience, connect to the 5GHz band whenever possible — especially when you’re near the router or in open spaces.
